I find all styles of home decor beautiful - if they're well done.  But there are only certain styles that I can comfortably live with - that calm me - inspire me - and speak to my very soul. 

One style, that for me holds endless allure, is "Mediterranean."  And by Mediterranean I mean the use of stone, stucco, plaster walls,  handmade clay tiles, hand forged ironwork - and the marriage of the indoors with the outdoors.

Mediterranean rooms welcome the sun, and walls are painted (or covered in tinted plaster) with warm, mottled colors that glow with the light throughout the day.  The rooms embrace you with comfortable furniture, handwoven rugs and unique, often "gardenesque" art pieces (stone obelisks, side tables, statuary.)  Beauty and ease go hand in hand - each knowing that they are elevated by the other.

Here's a beautiful example of a great room near San Diego.


Note the warm golden color of the plaster, the large glass allowing an abundance of light, the stone fireplace, and the tile floor covered with a subtle, beautiful rug.
