Katherine Hepburn - Follow The Leader
Does anybody out there NOT love Katherine Hepburn? If so, we're telling you now: you're in a VERY small minority. We love her movies, love the interviews she did with Dick Cavett (you can still catch them occasionally on TCM) but we also really love her fashion style. And that's why she's our pick for this Tuesday's They Get It post.
By her own admission, Katherine Hepburn never thought of herself as a fashion icon; in fact she thought that was a pretty amusing take on her style. In her very practical New Englander way, she always said that she "just wanted to be comfortable." And then wouldn't you know it - everyone else followed her lead.
She made "women wearing trousers" fashionable. And with her signature look - she was either a picture of thoughtful practicality, or the smart and sexy babe that you better not underestimate. She made wearing what had always been considered "men's fashions" cool.
Consider all the pants available to women today: everyday casual, work attire, resort wear, evening wear (remember when Yves St. Laurent first came out with his womens' smoking jacket and pants?) So for all of us women who can't imagine a wardrobe without trousers - Thank You Kate!
