Darryl Carter: New Style Book

I'm being a bit parochial with the pick for Style Source Fave this Thursday, as the author of this brand new book is a local area (Washington DC) designer.  But Darryl Carter has made a huge name for himself and his design work; and it happened from practically the instant he started his design business.

His story is wonderful, and a great inspiration to anyone who's working in one area, but has a dream to be doing something completely different.

Darryl Carter grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, and though he was always interested in art and design, he graduated from Georgetown law school and began his career as a lawyer.  But it wasn't all legal briefs for this talented gentleman; as he began a "side career"  of acquiring a property, renovating and decorating, and then moving on to the next one.

Then in 1997, Linda O'Keeffe, the design director of Metropolitan Home, saw a photo of his living room; and put the room on the cover of the magazine with the headline "The New Traditional."   A star was born!

His aesthetic is striking: clean lines, neutral colors, modern mixed with antique, and a totally unfussy attitude about the design.  In his own words: "You have to make the environment pleasing to the eye but comfortable enough to live in.  It has to be both practical and beautiful."

Darryl Carter's new book:  The New Traditional - "Reinvent, Balance, Define Your Home"

And if you love interior design, be sure and also check out his website.  It's filled with gorgeous shots of his work.  So much inspiration!

      Fantastico! Have a wonderful trip.

And since I don't know the Italian for "good journey" I'll sign off with the familiar French: Bon voyage!

As far Darryl Carter's life is concern he has proved that the person's interest is everything, if he got interest in something, no matter , what degree he has, he should go with his passion.

I've seen a little of Washington, DC based interior design Darryl Carter's work before but it's his own Virgina getaway in the new Elle Decor that has me drooling! It passes my "I could move in today and be blissfully happy" test with flying colors. Carter calls his style "new traditional" and has used the phrase for his new book that will be released later this year. I can't wait to see it but until then, I will continue to pour over the photos of this home.
