Nina Garcia & Clinton Kelly's Style Tips

There are a lot of "professionals" who will give you advice on fashion and style: tell you what you should be wearing, what designer or trend you should be paying attention to.  Many I simply ignore, because a) I have no idea who they are or what they're about, or b) I think they're so "out there" that I'd do the opposite of whatever they said.  However, there are a few who definitely intrigue me.

One is Nina Garcia, who all Project Runway devotees are very familiar with.  I admit, while I usually agree with what Nina has to say about a contestant's designs; sometimes I don't know what the heck she's talking about.  But I always find her entertaining.

And now, she's composed a list of the top 10 things every fashionable woman must have in her wardrobe.  The list is a "stripped to the bare bones" version of what she's written about in her book, The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own.

Nina's list includes: animal prints (which I LOVE in small doses) trenches and, of course, the little black dress.  To read the complete list and her fashion suggestions, check out the post at the Fashion Tribes blog.

Another "style guru" I love to watch, is Clinton Kelly of What Not To Wear.  He and Stacy London are entertaining as can be; and they always make their hapless client look so much better.   And since I've had a field day recently, writing about sloppy attire, here's what Clinton has to say about dressing casually.

"Get yourself a pair of dark wash, straight leg, trouser jeans.  Avoid tees since they often look sloppy and make your body appear shapeless.  A blouse is dressier and can accentuate your body's natural hourglass shape - or create the illusion of one.  Embrace the structured jacket.  Not only will the right jacket complete your look, it's also the best way to camouflage any flaws." - an abridged version of Clinton's answer to how to dress for a casual weekend.

Thank you Ms. Garcia and Mr. Kelly.  Words to dress by!

Hope everyone has a great weekend - we'll talk again Monday!

I think Ms. Garcia is terrific. She always looks so beautiful on Project Runway. I think her comments are always spot on, although I do wish the judges weren't all so gung ho for 'innovative' all the time. We are fed up with seeing deconstructed, flouncy, badly sewn, uneven outfits.
