The Death of Civilization
Just kidding! But that's a bit how I'm feeling on a "This Makes Me Crazy" Monday, as there are a number of things annoying me. So today - a short list:
1 - Thanksgiving and Christmas promotions - happening right now. For crying out loud, let me enjoy the fall! I realize that in retail, prep is in full swing for the holidays. (Yes, we're doing the same here at Bella Figura USA.)
But like other reasonable people, it's all behind the scenes. And should remain that way!
2 - Young women dressed and made up like streetwalkers. To the young woman at the restaurant last night: Where is your mother? You've dyed your hair a completely unnatural shade of blond for your skin tone, and then added black shadow all around your eyes. What are you thinking? In no place is this considered an "attractive look." And the looks you were getting from people around you were not looks of admiration.
3 - Women of a certain age still trying to play the ingénue. Give it up! As the designer, Tom Ford, said, "everyone has to grow up sometime." Little is more pathetic, than to see a woman dress and behave as though she were a couple decades younger than she actually is. And these days, when there are so many examples all around of older women who look fabulous and are entirely age appropriate (see post on Sophia Loren) there's just no excuse.
4 - People screaming at each other about their politics. Here's a tip: open minded people are just that - open minded. Which means they are inherently persuadable. So, if you have a good argument (and that means you are in command of the facts - not emotions or gauzy rumors floating around the Net) then by all means, try your hand at persuading others to your side. That's the American way! And passion is good - but it must be coupled with a sane, rational, reasonable critique. As Joe Friday would say: just the facts.
Yelling at people? Not very persuasive. Insulting people? Not very persuasive. (BTW, everyone who commented or sent an email re: Friday's post on Sarah Palin's Personal Style - I'm not talking about you. Everyone was polite and respectful.)
5 - And finally, what's driving me crazy? Everyone who makes lists about what's driving them crazy!
