A Sun Room Draped in Style
I love sun rooms. I'm guessing most people do; and no doubt, it stems from a universal love of sunlight. Think of how painters, through the centuries, have sought to capture all the many, and sometimes very elusive, patterns of light.
I found this photo years ago, and was immediately struck by its distinctive style. Unlike the majority of sun rooms you see, this one doesn't have floor to ceiling windows - no, the windows are actually on the small side compared to the height of the walls. But it's the draping that really captures the imagination. While the white panels trimmed with blue are fresh and crisp, the sheer volume of fabric is unexpected. It's more reminiscent of opulent tenting, than the normally more edited style of sun rooms.
And then there are the furnishings: very British Colonial - and this room was done before the public craze of a few years ago. The patterned brick floor is unique and gorgeous, the fabrics covering the cushions are inspired - classic ticking stripe paired with an ethnic pattern - and the Moroccan/Turkish lanterns are lovely. But it's the draperies that my eye always comes back to. Oh, those gorgeous drapes!

(Apologies to the designer and photographer: I pulled this picture so many years ago - the details have been long lost.)
