If anyone embodies the tenets of Madame Dariaux's A Guide to Elegance, it is fashion designer Carolina Herrera.

I've never seen a photo of Ms. Herrera, where she appeared anything less than pulled-together perfection.  In fact, I remember reading about her several years ago.  In the article, one of her daughters told about traveling with her mom on long international flights.  She said that at the end of the journey, everyone had that typical disheveled and tired travel look.  Everyone, that is, but her mother.  Her mother always walked off the plane with her hair perfect, her makeup perfect, and not a wrinkle in her clothes.

That killed me.  The best I could ever be described as looking after a long flight is "OK."  Sometimes (more than I care to admit) I've looked downright awful.  But her daughter's words rang true; because I've also observed those rare creatures (both women and men) that seem to escape the wear and tear most of us suffer on those flights.

Yes,  Venezuelan born Herrera, has that international glamour thing going on, most often associated with movie stars from years past.  Just like the clothes she designs, her look is chic and glamorous - sophisticated and mature - but never stuffy.  She is the embodiment of style - and ageless beauty.
