A Man For All Seasons

For those old enough, you'll recall a film from the 60's about Sir Thomas More and King Henry VIII, called A Man For All Seasons, based on the play by Robert Bolt.

Well, for today's They Get It segment, we're not referencing a British king, but a king of Hollywood - the ever fascinating, Cary Grant.

There was a marvelous piece in Sunday's Washington Post about Cary Grant.  The article, written by Sarah Kaufman, focused on his style of acting, known as kinetic acting - where the emphasis is on movement and body awareness.  It's a delightful read; and the article is yet another reminder of how influential Cary Grant was - and is - even today.

For a man to be compared to Cary Grant is high praise, indeed.  After all, besides his handsome looks, the conversation always goes to his effortless, urbane style.  From the delicious wardrobe, to the graceful, elegant dancer's moves (addressed in Ms. Kaufman's article) he is held up as the standard bearer for the debonair, sophisticated gentleman.

We realize that glamorous is usually a word reserved for the women.  But we think it fits Mr. Grant just as well.  Some of our favorite photos of the glamorous Mr. Grant:

And the video: a montage of scenes from To Catch a Thief, with two of our all-time style favorites: Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. And it gets better - background music by Frank Sinatra. Ooh baby! The video is a bit long (seven minutes) - but oh my, all the incredible clothes: the dresses, tuxedos, hats, scarves ...
