I'm Going Into Withdrawal
I better explain - last night was the season finale of Burn Notice. Boo, hiss - and much tearing of the hair and gnashing of the teeth!
Alright - perhaps I'm being a bit melodramatic; but Thursday nights just got BORING again! (BTW - what exactly is gnashing the teeth - I never quite got that one.)
Anyway, here we are on a Free For All Friday - yahoo! - "But what?" you ask, "does your melancholy, and Burn Notice, have to do with Savvy Style's subject - it's raison d'etre - style?"
Ah... so glad you asked! Because, style has many definitions. It's not just about fashion, but also about "the manner in which
something is done, expressed, or performed. (Thank you Mr. Webster.)
And for me, the style of the show's characters is what's so alluring. Oh sure, they're definitely eye candy; but come on - you find yourself in a jam, you want Fiona on your side. You want Sam to have YOUR back - not the other guy's. And that pesky person in your life that you secretly wish would just go away? You want to be able to call Michael to take care of him!
I've talked before about how confidence is the most attractive characteristic any woman, or man, can have. If you have authentic confidence (not some put-on bravado) you can pull off most anything.
But hand in hand with confidence, you need competence. And show me three characters who are more competent that Michael, Sam and Fiona.
Let's be honest here, a person who can handle most any situation that arises - and handle it successfully - that's sexy! That's why we all love James Bond. Yeah, he's gorgeous and debonair; but he's also uber competent. He can take care of himself, and those around him (usually.)
I think back to men I've known that I found wildly attractive and sexy; and they have two things in common: confidence and competence. And interestingly, very similar styles of operating - they listen more than they talk, they play their cards close to the vest, and they have a very calm demeanor - always in control. Think Clint Eastwood and his movie characters - he speaks quite softly, but everyone knows he's the most powerful guy in the room.
Confidence and competence - so stylishly brought to life by Michael, Fiona and Sam. Oh, I'm going to miss them!
