The Boys, and Girls, of Summer: Once Upon a Time
I take it back. I take it all back.
In the I'm too Sexy for my Shirt post two weeks ago, I wrote: Would I go back to being twenty years younger? Not a chance in hell! I liked myself then - I like myself even better now.
Then I saw this video. What is it about music that brings back such strong memories? They say scent memory is the strongest of all - but I think music memory (my term) must be a close second.
I vividly remember when this song hit - 1984; and I loved it from the moment I heard the opening notes. And whenever I hear it now, or it's even mentioned, I go back in time.
Back to that audacious, carefree young woman with long blond hair, and yes, Wayfarers, zipping down a wide, palm studded boulevard in a tiny sports car. I can still feel the sun on my face, the wind whipping my hair; and the feeling of sheer bliss - no cares, no responsibilities, per se - just reveling in life.
So, I take back what I said. Yes, I'd go back - only for an afternoon, or maybe a day - back to reconnect with that girl whose eyes sparkled with fire, every single moment.
And now, the video, to bring a smile to the beginning of a weekend - and to remember what it was like - once upon a time:
