Cleopatra's Study - An Extra Bedroom Turns into an Exotic Retreat
Another Wednesday, another Home Decor Thoughts. Today we're looking at a room in a spacious Time Warner Center apartment. But this isn't just any old big, ritzy Manhattan apartment. No, this apartment was the scene of a design extravaganza a few years ago.
Architectural Digest asked designers on their AD 100 list to go in and make "raw spaces... come alive."
I love designer showcases. Whether they're big houses, small flats, or spaces inside Design Marts, I'm always fascinated to see what designers come up with when there is no client, per se. And along with getting to see the free hand of the interior designer, you get to compare the different designer's styles - up close and personal, so to speak.
And the room we're looking at today is a study, done by Craig Wright. Mr. Wright took a very blah, and basic, bedroom space and turned it into a dream room. A dream room - yes, as in my dreams my study looks this good!
See for yourself:

I love how the designer totally ignored the window placement, in order to give the room symmetry.
And the cool furniture: the Egyptian Revival daybed and chairs are from the set of the movie The Ten Commandments. Now, that's a conversation starter!
But it's the overall feel that captivates me: the rich, warm tones of the walls and floor - the lush, velvet upholstery - the unique decorative accessories, including Egyptian urns and bowls, the stone capitol, and rich brass accents.
The whole room beckons you in - then invites you to stay - perhaps to recline on that daybed - and dream a little...
Curious as to how the room looked before the designer got his hands on it? Check this out:
Talk about a blank canvas!
