"Red Hot" Goes Cool & Summery at This Ocean Front Home

Red - I don't normally think of red as a cool summertime color.  Oh sure, there's the Fourth of July red white & blue motif that many use each year, and there are the been around forever red-checked table cloths that are favorites for summer picnics and barbeques.

But red as the primary color in invoking a light, casual summery feel?  I have to admit that it would be one of the last colors that would come to mind.  Green - yes.  Blue - absolutely.  Pastel anything - OK.  But red?  Red makes me think of traditional dining rooms done up in rich ruby tones.  Or guest bedrooms, bedecked in fanciful red and white toiles.

Then I saw this house on Long Island.  It's a vision - and it's a vision in red - and white.

So here on this Wednesday's Home Decor Thoughts, check out this gorgeous living room:

And another view taken from the dining area:

Of course, it doesn't hurt to have all of the fabulous windows looking out onto that beautiful blue water.  Talk about a great backdrop!

The striking sofas in the room are covered in custom white linen slipcovers hand-printed in red tracery.  Beautiful and practical, as the covers are washable.    And I adore the Lucite and glass coffee table - makes it all the easier to see the fab custom rug.

And how about those wonderful lamps in the second photo?  Bold and beautiful, from Ralph Lauren Home.  And the upholstered stools under the console  are covered in a Brunschwig & Fils stripe.  Love them - they not only add a dramatic pop to the area, but serve as extra seating - always a good thing.

I've changed my mind about red not being a summery interior color, and this house was the reason.  Red never looked so good!
